What TV show would you bring back?

“What TV show would you bring back now and why?”

I was born in 1986, so I believe that this makes me a quintessential ‘90’s child. Starting the decade at 4 and ending the decade as a cynical 14-year-old. I was impressionable during this time so the TV, movies and music definitely aided in shaping me, even to this day. I usually cringe when I hear that some studio or network is redoing a show or movie from my youth. I always silently beg them not to ruin my childhood and most the time I am let down.

I would have to choose the show, “My So-Called Life.” This show, sadly, only ran one reason from 1994-1995. The show followed a group of teens at the fictional Liberty High school in Pennsylvania. The main character we followed was Angela Chase who lead us through the emotional turmoil and drama that teenagers face from their peers and family members.

The short-lived show hit a lot of hot topic social issues of the time, child abuse, homophobia, teenage alcoholism, homelessness, violence, censorship and drug use. What makes this show stand out in my mind even to this day is the fact that it was never a one episode resolved issue like many of its high school counterparts. The raw, gritty realness brought a viewership in and kept them hooked.

I believe this would be a timeless show because so many of the same issues are ones shared today among teenagers and their parents or guardians. The topics could be changed to anything and the fact that the issues and outcomes stay with each character is to real. Showing everyone that the actions you take do stay with you and you can let break you or you can learn and rise above them.

I would love to see Netflix reboot this show in the future. I believe the name alone would bring in 90’s kids and the concepts and realness of the issues and story lines would bring in a much wider audience.

Now, I leave this question with you: What TV show would you being back now and Why?

  1. Great question! The Outlaws! Aired December 28, 1986 on CBS. It ran for 11 episodes. Oh! I loved this show. It’s about a gang of bank robbers who were running from a Marshal during a storm. Lightning struck some longhorn cattle forming a huge arc that sent the Marshall and the cowboys into present day Texas (1986.) They decided to work together and started a private investigation service fighting crime! Oh, fabulous show not many people even remember! Thanks for the trek down memory lane!!

  2. I’ve never watched this but it sounds so good! It would definitely be awesome if they brought it back to life.
I would personally want Buffy the Vampire Slayer rebooted even though the actors are older, the time could obviously be later on like Dawns generation and the other slayers aspect of the slayer world. I just honestly loved this show and to me there could never be enough.

Omg Buffy was my second choice for this post. I completely agree with you! I would love for a reboot. Maybe Netflix or Hulu will take this suggestion.

  3. I would go with Freaks and Geeks. It made its debut in 1999. One of my favorite shows that only lasted 1 season. Its about a girl, Lindsey, that use to be in the geek aspect of school in the 80’s. Good in school, a mathlete and never done wrong. Her grandmother passed and she started hanging out with the “freaks” of the show, the outcast that smoke ditch school and listen to rock music. It follows Lindsey and her brother sam , who is in the geek aspect of the show. and their life in school.
It had an amazing all star cast with Jason Segel, James Franco, Seth Rogen, Linda Cardellini and many more that are still in shows and movies coming out today. It had a long list of guest appearances from famous actors before they even got famous. Such as Ben Stiller, Shia Lebouf, Jason Schwartzman, David Koechner and Rashida Jones.
I go back and watch it from time to time and enjoy it every time. It wasnt really over the top and was kind of relatable to the teenage life for the most part. If you haven’t watched it I would recommend checking it out on Netflix

  4. I could probably name a lot of shows that would be interesting to bring back, but I think the show Carpoolers would work the best. It was a very funny sitcom that aired on ABC about tens yeas ago that dealt with a group of guys who carpooled to an office where they worked at different careers. If they cast it well or brought back the original cast, I think it would do really well.

I also think very old ones like Sledgehammer or Coach would be interesting to see today too. Again, I could probably ramble on and on about this topic!

    1. I’ve never heard of Carpoolers but it sounds like what I do every morning haha. I use to watch Coach all the time with my Dad. Was a great show. Thank you for taking the time to check out my post and comment. I’ll be doing more question posts like this in the future and hope to see your answers there as well 😀

  5. Such a great question! I never watched My So-Called Life, but it sounds interesting and most of the actors went on to other things that we all recognize. I will have to check it out.

Without a question, the TV show that I would want back is FARSCAPE. For those unfamiliar, Farscape is an Australian-American science fiction television series, that originally (in the US) aired on the SciFi channel (Before they got all weird and started spelling it like “SyFy”). The series was produced by The Jim Henson Company and they were also responsible for the various alien make-up and prosthetics, and two series regular characters (the animatronic puppets Rygel and Pilot) were entirely Creature Shop creations.

“Farscape features a diverse ensemble of characters who are initially escaping from corrupt authorities in the form of a militaristic organization called the Peacekeepers. The protagonists live inside a large bio-mechanical ship called Moya, which is a living entity. In the first episode, they are joined by the main character, John Crichton (Ben Browder), a modern-day American astronaut who accidentally flew into the entrance of a wormhole near Earth during an experimental space flight. On the same day, another stranger is picked up by Moya: a stranded Peacekeeper named Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black). Despite his best intentions, John makes enemies; the primary of these is known as Scorpius. There are a few stand-alone plots but the show gradually unfolds progressive arcs beginning with their recapture by the Peacekeepers, followed by John’s search to find another wormhole back to Earth and an eventual arms race for wormhole technology weapons. Secondary arcs explore the way in which the characters change due to their influences and adventures together, most notably John over his obsession with wormhole technology, his relationship with Aeryn and the neural clone of Scorpius that haunts him in his brain.”

This inspired me to do a full post on my blog: https://thebradcave.wordpress.com/2017/09/13/what-tv-show-would-you-bring-back/

Thanks for sharing and suggesting the idea! Very cool. 😀
