Malignancy #Poetry

This word is full of people

Who feel self-entitled

Who want to be dignified

They’re more important

They’re above you

Above us all

These ideals are what holds us back as human beings

Your job

Your economic status

Your religion

Your sexual orientation

Your gender

Nor your skin color

Makes you no better than anyone else

I wish people would see

It’s an imagined social status

That is segregating people

Causing more riffs

Turmoil

For what?

Stroking your own ego?

You are the fool

And those who embrace humanity

We are the many

Our words of love

Will not be hushed

By your spews of hatred

Hair in a bun

(Must be colors found in nature)

Clothes groomed

(Nothing provocative)

Makeup on

(Simple, classic)

Smile sweetly

Soft claps for passing the unity test

Name tag placed neatly on a pressed shirt

We passed their society test

Herded together like mindless sheep

Blank expression masked by an emotionless smile

Day in and day out

Living to conformity

My mask beginning to crack as the smile leaves my face

Thoughts of uniqueness slipping from the concrete cell of my mind

A visceral cry escaping my lips

Hands involuntarily yanking my shinning hair from its bun

Sending strands flying in freedom

Feet moving away from the shocked faces

Ripping the clean pressed shirt

Using it as a rag

Streaking the makeup across my face

I am not a robot

I am more than just some label

My heart pounds as music pours from my lips

This is freedom

This is life

This is me
