Hair in a bun

(Must be colors found in nature)

Clothes groomed

(Nothing provocative)

Makeup on

(Simple, classic)

Smile sweetly

Soft claps for passing the unity test

Name tag placed neatly on a pressed shirt

We passed their society test

Herded together like mindless sheep

Blank expression masked by an emotionless smile

Day in and day out

Living to conformity

My mask beginning to crack as the smile leaves my face

Thoughts of uniqueness slipping from the concrete cell of my mind

A visceral cry escaping my lips

Hands involuntarily yanking my shinning hair from its bun

Sending strands flying in freedom

Feet moving away from the shocked faces

Ripping the clean pressed shirt

Using it as a rag

Streaking the makeup across my face

I am not a robot

I am more than just some label

My heart pounds as music pours from my lips

This is freedom

This is life

This is me

Arm stretched

Tea sipped

Headphones on

Beats pumping in music

She set the tone for her trance

And she embraced it

Ideas musing

Words combining

Linking together to show her creativity

She never edited herself

Letting her truth

Her soul

Pour out onto the screen

Writing is her digital therapy

Nothing before has set her free

July 4th: Booze of Freedom

It’s July, and in America what does that mean? You will be able to find all the latest red, white and blue items. This is the time of year I like to refer to as the, “Flag lover’s dream.” Or, for the less politically correct crowd, ‘Merica- Fuck yeah.”

There are many ways to show your patriotism all 365 days. You can fly the American flag on your home, car and clothing. Standing, singing or reciting the national anthems and pledge of allegiance. And, if you’re brave enough, dive into the world of politics on social media. There are many more great ways, but what’s better than celebrating the birth of America as we know it? Some would say “anything” with a groan and others would jump right in and say, “NOTHING!”

I, myself, am an inbetweener. Which is basically someone who is excited for the food, booze, company of friends and family as well as fireworks. Oh, and did I say booze? I really mean it there are tons of fun adult drink options of websites and apps such as Tipsy Bartender.  My favorite is the, “ Merica Slushie Cocktail.” That’s the easiest way for me to cool down, have fun and of course show my patriotism.

Merica Slushie Cocktail

This recipe makes two cocktails.

Red Layer:

1 oz. (30ml) Raspberry Vodka

3 oz. (90ml) Fruit Punch Gatorade

½ oz. (15ml) Grenadine

White Layer:

1 oz. (30ml) Coconut Rum

3 oz. (90ml) Sobe Pina Colada

Blue Layer:

1 oz. (30ml) UV Blue Raspberry

½ oz. (15ml) Blue Curacao

3 oz. (90ml) Blue Gatorade

Strawberry Garnish

I would highly recommend replacing UV Vodka with 360 Vodka. The overall flavor of 360 Vodka is more enriching to the slushie and I don’t want to just pore the rest of the bottle down the drain after I make my cocktails. What’s great too is 360 Vodka is made in America. The bonus too is the bottle looks so much nicer and for all those who like to go and Etsy and Pinterest the bottles can be re-purposed easily and in cute ways. An easy and fun way to celebrate by getting a red, white and blue bottle which is made in America! “’Merica-Fuck yeah!”

If you are going to partake in the “Booze of Freedom,” area of July 4th please make sure you are responsible. Being that this is the birthday of America who is turning 241 years old this year is way passed the legal drinking age. As always, remember to never drink before or while driving. If you are at an event the best thing is to have a designated driver or DD. There a lot of bars and events that will offer the DD free non-alcoholic beverages and free and/or discounted food for taking that commitment you just should speak to an employee for details and offers. Another option is getting a ride via; Uber, Lyft and Taxi Services in your area.

Now comes the fireworks talk. The only safe way to mix booze and fireworks is to go watch a local firework display or watch fireworks from your TV/Streaming device. If you have your own to light and wish to boom for freedom please remember not to drink and while lighting fireworks. If you have any doubts on this just got to Youtube and search, “Firework Fails” and learn from other people’s mistakes.

Let’s do the Ex-Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger proud, by always remembering:

‘Merica– Fuck Yeah!
